Valerie Wisner
Background
Coach Val began playing volleyball at 11 years old and quickly fell in love with the sport. From there, she played on 5 different national club teams up until college. The various clubs included Carolina Juniors, J-Stroke, East Coast Power, and Crosscourt. In addition, Coach Val had the pleasure of being apart of the Berks Catholic Volleyball program competing on Junior Varsity and Varsity all 4 years of high school. She had the honor of being apart of the 2015 PIAA County, District, and State Championship team, the 2016 District Championship team, and the 2018 County Runner-Up team. Throughout high school, Coach Val was recruited by 23 NCAA college programs at the division 1, 2, and 3 level. She committed to Cabrini University as a libero where she competed her freshman season in 2019. She retired her collegiate career soon after the 2019 fall season due to multiple ongoing injuries. Since retirement, Coach Val has continued to dedicate her free time to volleyball in different impactful ways. She has found a continuous passion for coaching and still plays pick-up with other retired college athletes and plans to play semi-pro and pro women’s volleyball soon. Coach Val began coaching national club teams at Synergy Volleyball Club. Since 2019, she has coached 4 national teams, became a private coach creating multiple high level athletes, assisted her colleagues in running camps and clinics, and assisted in a large 2020 fall middle school program. Her 2022 14s club team won majority of the tournaments they participated in and won a bid to nationals. At nationals, the team was runner up in the Pearl Bracket. In 2022, Coach Val was asked to be the varsity head coach of Archbishop Carroll High School Volleyball. Coach Val plans to grow an exercise physiology career and coach at the college level full time very soon. She is overly excited to take on this new honorable position at TNT to assist in growing young female athletes on and off the court.
Coach Val’s philosophy is to push the girls behind what they may think they are capable of, develop their volleyball IQ, and while keeping the girls disciplined, to always have fun. She hopes the girls will learn many lessons throughout the season about how to grow as a young woman, and become a better teammate, leader, and sportsman. Her goal is to serve as a role model for all young athletes to create goals, work hard, and be kindhearted. She loves to play with the girls at practice when appropriate and engages in multiple unique team bonding activities.
Coach Val has a bachelors degree in Health and Exercise Science. She has earned a certificate in social work and Spanish at her university. She loves the gym, weight lifting, and conditioning and has a high understanding of biomechanics. Coach Val brings this knowledge into the volleyball gym and makes sure to break down biomechanics of volleyball athletes in a way the girls can understand. In addition, in her opinion conditioning is a great way to assist in solidifying muscle memory and gross motor coordination.
